Instead of Arrest, Officer Pays for Shoplifter's Groceries

What would you do if you had no money to buy food for your family? A broke single mother of three in Florida felt she had no choice but to take food from a supermarket.

As Jessica Robles was leaving with a cart full of unpaid groceries, Miami-Dade Police Officer Vicki Thomas arrived to the scene.

"I asked her, 'Why did you do that, what would make you do that?' And she said, 'My children were hungry,'" Thomas remembered.

Robles said she thought for sure she would be arrested. What Thomas did next surprised everyone.
"I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn't going to solve the problem with her children being hungry," Thomas said.

In total, she gave the family $100 worth of groceries.
"To see them go through the bags when we brought them in, it was like Christmas. A hundred dollars to me was worth a million," she said.

"All I want to tell her is thank you from the bottom of my heart," Robles said, wiping away tears.
The mother of three is now going to a local food bank while looking for work. She said when she gets back on her feet she will bless others the way Thomas blessed her.
