Muslim Militants Post Grisly Images of Mass Killing in Iraq

BAGHDAD – As the Iraqi government bolstered
Baghdad’s defenses Sunday, the Islamic militant group that captured two
major cities last week posted graphic photos that appeared to show its
fighters massacring dozens of captured Iraqi soldiers.

The pictures on a militant website appear to show masked fighters of
the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, loading the captives onto
flatbed trucks before forcing them to lie face-down in a shallow ditch
with their arms tied behind their backs. The final images show the
bodies of the captives soaked in blood after being shot.

They’re not the only images showing how ISIS, also known as the
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, punishes captured Iraqi
soldiers. CBS News correspondent Clarissa Ward reports from Baghdad that
a video appears to show Iraqi special forces soldiers being
interrogated by Sunni militants.

Irish Pastor Under ‘Hate Crime’ Investigation for Sunday Sermon Against Islam

BELFAST, Northern Ireland – A 75-year-old Irish preacher was subjected to a police probe after he condemned Islam in a sermon and was accused of ‘hate mongering.’
James McConnell, pastor of the Whitewell Metropolitan Church in North Belfast, Ireland, discussed the religion of Islam during an evening sermon on Sunday, May 18th. During the sermon, McConnell denounced Islam and said the contrast between it and Christianity is stark.

“The God we worship and serve this evening is not Allah,” he proclaimed, according to a video of his sermon. “The Muslim god—Allah—is a heathen deity. Allah is a cruel deity. Allah is a demon deity.”
McConnell then criticized the “foolish” British government for attempting to appease Muslims financially, saying Islam is “a doctrine spawned in hell.” He also noted that Christians around the world are persecuted for their faith by the “fanatical worshipers” of Allah.

North Carolina House Passes Bill Protecting Students’ Rights to Religious Expression

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina House of Representatives has passed a bill protecting students’ rights to religious expression, and allowing teachers and other staff members to voluntary participate in student prayers before or after school.

According to reports, SB 370 was presented in response to a recent situation where an elementary school student was prohibited from reading a self-penned poem to her class because it contained a religious reference. The student’s poem centered on her grandfather’s service in WWII, but also cited his prayers for protection.

The bill passed by the House of Wednesday ensures that students are free to “[e]xpress religious viewpoints in a public school to the same extent and under the same circumstances as a student is permitted to express viewpoints on nonreligious topics or subjects in the school.” It also guarantees students the right to pray and distribute faith-based material.
