Turkey: Family Life Unlike TV Series

Family violence is a world-wide phenomenon which exists in all societies. However, its intensity and frequence are usually curbed as a country is reaching higher levels of cultural development.

Turkey , through its highly succesful TV Serials which it exports throughout Greece and the Middle East, is portraying an inaccurate picture of a supposedly developed society.

Scenes of domestic violence, primarily against women, as the following pictures are showing, tend to be more regular occurences than isolated incidents.

What you see here is , in plain sight, a wife's beating in front of the under-age daughter somewhere in the old town of Caesarea in Cappadocia, Turkey.

Thanks to some passer-by concerned citizens, the police was alerted and the victim was transferred by ambulance to a nearby hospital with some serious injuries. [liako.gr]
