It was five short years ago when my daughter convinced me to take into our home a new resident: a beautiful sun conure named Milo.
It did not take long before my wife and I got attached to this little bird who in his own unique way stole our hearts and gave us a new understanding about life and about God's creation.
From Milo, we learnt the meaning of unconditional love for he was a true blessing from God as he enriched our lives with his presence and helped us understand and appreciate all kinds of pets as we learnt to discern the love that many of them have for their owners.
When Milo passed away this last May after a short illness, he left a big void in our hearts. We miss him dearly for we lost a member of our family and there is no day that goes by that we do not think of him and the great times we had together.
Our Lord created everything with care and love and with one great purpose: to help humans grow spiritually from our interaction with nature. Thus, as we mature and reach higher levels of understanding, we are, also, learning to love more and to do it unconditionally.
For us Christians, of course, there is no better example of a greater love than the unconditional love that God demonstrated to us through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus on the Cross, thereby, paying out the penalty for our transgressions and reconciling us to Himself, once again.
Milo taught us about love and through his actions, he accomplished his special mission: He loved us unconditionally, regardless of our moods, of our demeanor and attitudes, our lack of patience, our crankiness or our occasional self pity.
His example was simple but its meaning was deep. The creature was imitating the Creator as the love displayed was unconditional.
There are many wonderful lessons that humans can learn from other living creatures and that is why I am hoping that you will enjoy the following video that was brought to my attention by my loving wife. Enjoy. [ El Greco]
